Family Of Ola Raji, Peckham Murder Victim, Appeal For Information, One Year On

The family of the Peckham teenager who was murdered one year ago have appealed to the public for help in tracking his killers.

Ola Raji left his home, shortly after 10pm on 21 April 2015, and reportedly cycled along the East Surrey Grove Estate, where he was confronted by two men. He was shot & stabbed.

Police and his sisters are appealing to the public for information to help identify his killers.

In an emotional appeal, Zainab Raji and Ruki Ware told the public that one year on, they still do not know what happened and would like their help with information to enable them get some peace.

"We still don't know exactly what happened. So if there is anyone who knows, it will help to give some peace, that would be much appreciated."

"To many people I guess Ola would just be a statistic, but to us, he is much more. He is a son, a brother and a grandson." Zainab said.

Will Reynolds, Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the case appealed saying Ola was shot dead tragically on On 21 April 2015 after he left his home and cycled towards East Surrey Grove, a route that would have taken only about 2 minutes.

He said if you knew something or were the person Ola was coming to see, or know why he left his home that time that day, you should pleased come forward because it would make much difference to the investigation and to the family.

To highlight the determination of the metropolitan police to crack this case, detectives are offering a £20,000 reward for information that can help catch his murderers.

"A £20,000 reward is available for anyone who has any information that leads to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the person/s responsible for Ola's death." A police statement said.


The statement said that as Ola cycled onto the East Surrey Grove Estate, off Commercial Way, SE15, he was confronted by two men, resulting in Ola being shot, and after falling to the ground he was stabbed.

Detectives say they believe the two men then left the scene on foot via a cut through from Cator Street, into Sumner Road, before turning into Rosemary Road heading in the direction of the Surrey Canal Path.

Police were called that night by a member of the public who reported they had heard shots fired. The responding officers found Ola critically injured on the ground between two parked cars. They carried out emergency first aid until he was taken to hospital. Ola was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there.

Detective Chief Inspector Will Reynolds, who is leading the investigation from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "One year on from the night that Ola was murdered I am asking for the public's help to identify his killers. Over the course of our investigation many people have come forward to help us, and I am grateful to them for that.

"Ola lived nearby to where he was murdered, if you know where Ola was headed that night and why, then please get in touch with us.

"There are people out there who will know who killed Ola and why. Given the length of time that has passed I am appealing directly to those people who have that vital information but have yet to speak to us. It is not too late to talk to us and help Ola's family understand why their son was murdered and see those responsible brought to justice.

As part of the renewed appeal detectives will be returning to the scene of Ola's murder on Thursday, 21 April to try and trace any new witnesses or new information.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on 23 April 2015 which gave cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the chest.

During the course of the investigation three people have been arrested but not proceeded with.
