Royal Greenwich Confirms New Cabinet Posts And Appoints A New Mayor And Deputy

The decision to appoint the Mayor and Deputy was taken at the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 18 May. They will take up office as of 26 May.

The Full Council was also informed of the membership of the Cabinet, as appointed by the Leader of the Council.

The postholders are as follows:

Cllr Denise Hyland, Leader of the Royal Borough, and Cabinet Member for Finance & Resources

Cllr Danny Thorpe, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration & Sustainability

Cllr Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Children & Young People

Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Environment

Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Culture, Creative Industries and Community Well-Being

Cllr Maureen O’Mara, Cabinet Member for Customer Services & Anti-Fraud

Cllr David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Health & Adult Social Care

Cllr Averil Lekau, Cabinet Member for Housing & Anti-Poverty

Cllr Chris Kirby, Cabinet member for Human Resources, Co-operatives & Social Enterprise

Cllr Sizwe James, Cabinet Member for Transport, Economy & Smart Cities

New Mayor Appointed:

Cllr Olu Babatola has been appointed as the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the Municipal Year 2016/17, with Councillor Peter Brooks as his Deputy Mayor.

The Full Council was also informed of the appointment by Party Groups to the following posts:

Council Chief Whip, Cllr Angela Cornforth

Deputy Chief Whip, Cllr Aidan Smith

Leader of the Opposition, Cllr Matt Hartley

Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Cllr Mark Elliott

Chief Whip of the Opposition, Cllr Geoffrey Brighty
