Southampton Fireworks Factory In Bitterne Park Is On Fire

Ten pumps were despatched to deal with a fire incident after a Fireworks store expoded shooting thick black smoke high into the sky in Bitterne Park, Southampton.

Portchester Fire Station said it was dealing with fire involving firework factory leading to evacuation of the local area.

The massive fire and its attendant explosions this morning halted traffic and caused delays on neaby areas as motorists struggle to find alternative safety routes.

"Firefighters are tackling a major fire at a fireworks factory in Bitterne, Southampton. The area has been evacuated and roads have been closed."

The Hazardous Area Response Team of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust issued instruction adivising people in the local to stay indoors and keep windows closed:

"We advise that people in the local
#Bitterne area to keep doors & windows closed. Please avoid the area."

A local tweeted "Massive fire and explosions this morning as Fireworks store catches fire in Bitterne Park." while another said the fire was maddening.

Chris Nichols‏ who was asleep when the fire started tweeted: "Woken up by big bang. Fire on Bitterne Road West, which appears to have hit the firework factory."
