American actor Michael Jace, who was convicted on Tuesday May, 31 by a Los Angeles jury for killing wife, April Jace, has been sentenced to 40 years to Life in Prison for the killing.

The actor played a police officer on the TV show "The Shield". But yesterday, he was sentenced in Los Angeles for up to 40 years or life following his conviction for second-degree murder in the killing of April Jace.

According to Fox News, Jace was sentenced after an emotional hearing in which the victim's family members wept as they spoke about the impact of her loss. Jace apologized to the family and said there's no justification for his actions.

The 53-year old actor, who starred in
State of Play with Russell Crowe, was accused of fatally shooting his wife three times in their home in front of their children in May 2014.

His attorney told jurors that he acted `in the heat of passion.'

Prosecutors cited testimony from the couple's 10-year-old son, who told jurors that he heard his father say, "'If you like running, then run to heaven,'" before firing the second gunshot.
