Get Tech-savvy With The e-business Support Programme, Royal Greenwich Tell Residents

by Nancy Weirh

The Royal Greenwich e-business support programme is celebrating its second year of partnership working between the council and South East Enterprise (SEE).

The e-business programme – which welcomes new businesses to sign up and take advantage of the free services that it offers - began in May 2014 and was developed to help Greenwich businesses capitalise on the digital environment by adopting e-business practices. This includes training and support in areas such as social media, cloud-based systems and search engine optimisation.

The programme has helped a diverse range of small businesses across the Royal Borough achieve an increase in sales turnover in excess of £8m since it started. Local businesses have been able to create 75 new jobs on the back of using e-business practices, and the work carried out over the last two years has helped to safeguard nearly 500 jobs.

One of the businesses that has benefitted is Eat Sleep Love Ltd, an appointment only baby and nursery boutique providing a wide range of baby products, from furniture to travel systems. Andrew Slater from the company said “Although we understand our products and our customers, we needed an effective way to communicate with them at a business level. The e-business programme has enabled us to learn and develop critical e-business skills to take our business forward.”

Councillor Sizwe James, Cabinet Member for Transport, Economy and Smart Cities said, “E-business practices are no longer an optional extra and are becoming an essential part of day-to-day business. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of the training and support that SEE has to offer.”

Richard Tacagni of London Property Licensing, which is an information resource for landlords and letting agents described how the business has really benefited from support on the e-business programme, said: “With support and encouragement from South East Enterprise, my company just celebrated its first birthday, and we recently won an award for Best Service Provider in the Private Rented Sector 2016.”

Tony Goldstein, Managing Director of South East Enterprise, said: “It’s fantastic to be making a difference to so many local businesses and see their development over the last two years as we have supported them.”

SEE are holding an evening event at the Woolwich Centre Gallery on 29 September, from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.
