Royal Greenwich Hosts Change4Life Summer Road-show

by Benson Agoha | London

This summer, the Royal Borough of Greenwich will be hosting a Change4Life Summer Road show around the borough to help families eat well and move more whilst having fun.

With healthy eating, particularly cutting out sugar, being a clear priority at the moment, the Greenwich Change4Life Summer Road show aims to support people who want to eat more healthily by providing top tips and signposting to local services such as local Cookery Clubs and Good Food in Greenwich.

Obesity is a major public health issue, with over a third of children in England currently overweight or obese according to recent reports. Greenwich has the 4th highest level of child obesity in London at reception age, and the 6th highest for year 6; this is why tackling obesity is one of the top priorities in the Greenwich Health and Well Being Strategy.

Cllr David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Adult and Social Care said: “I am delighted that the Change4Life Summer Road show will be touring the borough to help families make the right decisions when it comes to eating healthily and being more physically active. Through working together and making small changes, we can make a big difference in this borough in tackling childhood obesity and creating healthier communities.”

The road show will be touring the Royal Borough of Greenwich until 3rd September. Friendly and trained advisors will be on hand to provide help and support.

There will be fun interactive activities, such as the Sugar Cube Challenge – pile soft giant sugar cubes alongside oversized images of food and drink to guess how much sugar each product contains!

There will also be an opportunity to use the ‘Sugar Smart App’ on board to scan food and drink so that residents can see how much sugar they contain. There will be some exciting, free giveaways and a ‘Fun Eat Well Pack’ too.

Residents can go to
