by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

Cllr David Gardner, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, was joined on Tuesday 07 June by care providers Care Outlook, Eleanor Care and London Care in signing the London Living Wage Declaration for care workers.

The declaration, effective from 4 July 2016, is part of the commitment made by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the Greenwich Clinical Commissioning to developing a skilled, local workforce for Greenwich Home Support and improving terms and conditions of employment for care workers. As part of the declaration, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and its care providers have committed to:

* The payment of at least London Living Wage to all staff working on the contract

* The payment of travel time for staff to and from appointments

* Access to flexible working practices, including the offer of a flexible permanent contract

* The payment of statutory sick pay

* The adoption of the other terms of Unison Ethical Care Charter

* The Providers will demonstrate the above staff conditions throughout the contract

Cllr David Gardner(top left) said: ‘This is a landmark agreement between the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group and its contracted home care providers. The borough’s care workers strive tirelessly to provide the very best in home care support and I’m delighted that their deserved pay and benefits have been enshrined in this declaration.”

Cllr Chris Kirby(top right), Cabinet Member for Human Resources, Co-operatives and Social Enterprises added: "This declaration reinforces our reputation as a Living Wage accredited council; we will always strongly encourage employers in this sector and in the borough more generally, to pay the London Living Wage."
