Get On Your Bike For Cycle To Work Day: 14 September – Free Ttraining Available, Say Royal Greenwich

by Our RBG Correspondent In Woolwich

National Cycle to Work Day takes place on Wednesday 14 September and residents who commute, or who would like to commute to work, by bike can get free route planning and safety training with the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The aim is to encourage people to take to two wheels and cycle to work for at least one day - last year tens of thousands got involved across the country.

Councillor Sizwe James, Cabinet Member for Cabinet Member for Transport, Economy & Smart Cities, said: “Cycling is a cost effective and healthier way to get to work, as well as helping to reduce traffic on our roads and contributing to cleaner air. These free courses can help you plan an efficient route as well as giving you all the tips and information you need to navigate safely and confidently on our capital’s roads.”

In the Royal Borough of Greenwich residents can sign up for free training sessions:

Start Commuting:

Work with a professional instructor to plan and ride your route through with you, as well as going through the skills you need to cycle confidently on London’s roads.

Advanced Urban Commuting:

A one to one course for experienced cyclists looking to gain a technical understanding of positioning at complex junctions, hazard perception and filtering through traffic to make you an ambassador for cyclists on London’s roads.

You will need to provide your own bike. Instructors are flexible to start from a convenient location near your place of work or residence.

All training and instructors are provided by BikeWorks – the Council’s cycle training provider.
