Royal Greenwich GCSE Results Shows Rise In Maths And English Grades

by Our RBG Correspondent In Woolwich

Congratulations are going to all Royal Borough GCSE students as they receive their results today – which show a rise in the number of students achieving A*- C in both English and Maths.

Provisional results show that nearly 61% of the borough’s GCSE students got A*- C grades in both English and Maths this year, up almost 2% points on last year.

Students performed especially well in English this year – with 78% getting A*- C grades, a rise on last year. Over 98% of Royal Borough of Greenwich students achieved at least one GCSE pass grade and in six of the schools this was 100%.

The provisional results also show the borough’s proportion of students achieving the English Baccalaureate (A* - C grades in English, Maths, at least two sciences, at least one humanities subject and at least one modern foreign language) also improved by 1% point on last year and is expected to be higher than the national average.

Nearly 65% of students achieved an A*-C in Maths and 62% got A*- C grades for Science.

Councillor Miranda Williams, Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “I want to congratulate all of our students who’ve had their results today – working for your GCSEs is a real challenge and I’m sure that today gives a great number of our students a real cause for celebration. There have been some astonishingly good individual results and those students should be extremely proud of themselves."

"I’m very pleased to see that, against a national backdrop of a significant fall in grades, that in Royal Greenwich we’ve seen a rise in the numbers of our pupils getting an A*-C in both Maths and English. It’s a great testament to the students themselves and to the teaching staff in our schools for helping our students to achieve their potential and to build a good foundation for their future. We want to continue to make strides forward and will look closely at how we can work on improving results in all subjects across the board.”
