Pizza Express is the second restaurant to confirm that they will join the new 6-screen cinema complex in Eltham High Street, south east London – part of a major regeneration scheme for the area by the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The deal with Pizza Express signed on 14 September will see the creation of a 2,644 square feet (246 square metre) restaurant, with a lease agreement signed for 25 years. Pizza Express joins Nando’s at the complex, along with Vue Entertainment, who will run the cinema.
Councillor Denise Hyland, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich (top right), said: “We have been driving forward a long-held vision to breathe new life into Eltham Town Centre and building a new cinema complex is at the heart of those plans – the addition of Pizza Express is excellent news and brings another major player to the deal."
Councillor Danny Thorpe, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainability, said: “The new cinema complex will be a major new attraction for the area and create new jobs for the local community, and add to the work we are currently doing to improve the general high street environment. I think it shows we are driving forward real change in Eltham.”
Demolition is due to start shortly on the current empty building on the site with the main building works anticipated to start during the first quarter of 2017.
The new cinema complex scheme will see around 100 full and part jobs created during the construction phase and once the complex opens, anticipated to be in the second half of 2018.
