Lockdown Extension Sparks Overnight Armed Robbery Activities

The extension of the lock-down announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday evening has sparked off incidences of armed robbery in different parts of Lagos.

Residents of Southwestern town of Iba could not sleep as a group of armed robbers visited and robbed households. Reports say, the robbers, numbering over 200 were stealing everything possible.

WhatsApps videos show two of the men apparently caught by the vigilante groups. Disturbances were rife in various estates as the news went round.

President Buhari announced a two-week extension of the lockdown on Tuesday night, saying the situation was worsening, with 323 cases reported that morning against 131 three weeks earlier.

He urged Nigerians to work with government to reduce fatalities, saying other countries like Saudi Arabia and France were still in Lockdown.

President Said the closure of Nigeria's air and land borders would remain while water ways will be closely monitored to frustrate abuses.

Last nights disturbances marked a new turn to the lock-down which began three weeks earlier.
