Lockdown Exit - Churches Make Triumphant Reopening

Sunday, August 9, 2020 made history in Nigeria as the day churches officially held normal services again after months of closure.

Churches threw their doors open yesterday to welcome worshipper forced out of worship centres after government imposed a lockdown on the country, shutting schools, churches and mosques, and limited gathering numbers to not more than 15 in March.

Yesterday's reopening, which was authorized for adult Worshippers only, paved the way for a semblance of normal life, coming after schools were allowed to partially open their doors to students last week to run lessons for respective students waiting to write their Common Entrance, Junior and Senior School Certificate examinations.

Some Churches put up banners welcoming Faithfuls and advising that Facemask is required.

Hi-fi magnifying speakers, forced to rest since March, 2020 finally roared to life.  The equipment of some churches could be heard 2 Kilometers away from where I wrote this piece/

Church musicians belted out heavingly tunes, as congregations sang and danced to the shame of a devilish disease called coronavirus.

Churches with their Covenant Worship Days set for Tuesdays or Thursdays were not left out.  Some held two-hour Praise and Worship services to mark their reopening.

By evening, as some Pastors showered blessings on their members, bringing services to a close, others were just kicking off.

Oh, how did you sound with your facemask on? To hell with COVID-19. The virus may just as well disappear - and never return.
