LINKEDIN TO LINK IN CHILDREN THROUGH AGE DROP, NEXT MONTH by Benson Agoha

LinkedIn will drop the age limit from 18 to 13 in the UK next month.

According to Darain Faraz, ‎Communications Manager and consumer public relations contact for LinkedIn Europe, this will, in fact, come into effect on Thursday, 12th of September, 2013 in order to attract younger members.

In a sense, this can only make anyone curious. Linkedin is described as a social network `for professionals'. It's membership currently stands at around 238 million worldwide and with the potential move, its membership is set to climb geometrically.

But not to worry, the aim is to target more academically oriented youngsters and, according to the professional network, over 200 universities have already adopted LinkedIn Universities pages.

In a blog post on August 19, 2013, LinkedIn's Christina Allen, justified the move by saying that the `launch of the University Pages is one cornerstone of the network's strategy to help students at every critical milestone from campus to fulfilling, successful careers.'

According her, inherent `in millions of member profiles were powerful insights about the career outcomes of educations from universities around the world. If harnessed, these insights could provide incredible value for students – helping them explore possible futures and build a support network to help them succeed on campus and beyond.'

Implication? Well, for students, their career start on LinkedIn.

Over 9 million professionals from the UK are on LinkedIn, many of them from the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
