BOKO HARAM, ANSARU ARE TERRORIST ORGANISATIONS, SAYS US GOVERNMENT by Benson Agoha

Boko Haram, the Nigeria-based militant group said to have links to al Quada has been declared a Terrorist Organisation by the US government.

Boko Haram has been responsible for several thousands of deaths from the massacre of civilians in the Central and North East Part of Nigeria.

The classification obviously ends months of arguements among public affairs observers over what the US thinks of the activities of a group that has responsible for so much pain.

Boko Haram was not the only group so designated. Ansaru, another group said to have a more international focus, is an Islamic Jihadist group linked to Boko Haram.

Information released by the US Department of State said "The Department of State has announced the designation of Boko Haram and Ansaru as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended, and as Specially Designated Global Terrorists under section 1(b) of Executive Order 13224".

The stateent said "These designations will assist U.S. and other law enforcement partners in efforts to investigate and prosecute terrorist suspects associated with Boko Haram and Ansaru."

Hopefully, this will immediate impact and serve as a deterence to the groups.
