CROSSRAIL: New Venue Confirmed For Archaeology Lectures

Crossrail today released information regarding a new venue Archaeology lectures and exhibitions scheduled for March 5 and 12, 2014.

The exhibitions which have been running since February 15, will end on March 12 after "London's Last Great Shipbuilder - The Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company by Danny Harrison, MOLA.

The exhibitions have proved hugely popular and necessitated a larger hall.

In a press release, Crossrail said "Following exceptional interest for Crossrail’s Portals to the Past weekly public lecture series we have been able to secure a larger venue for the remaining presentations."

The remaining exhibitions which start at 6pm on the respective dates, will be held in a different but larger venue at:

St Giles in-the-Fields Church, 60 St Giles High Street, London WC2H 8LG.

•5 March: Beyond the City Walls - Recent finds from Liverpool Street Station, by Alison Telfer from Museum of London Archaeology; and

•12 March: London's Last Great Shipbuilder - The Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, by Danny Harrison from Museum of London Archaeology.

Doors to the venue, which holds up to 300 people, will be opened at 5:45pm for a 6pm start, Crossrail said and "should ensure that all those who want to hear about the latest finds and research from these two Crossrail sites can do so."

Crossrail's Portals to the past exhibition is being held at the Crossrail Visitor Information Centre behind Centre Point, 16-18 St Giles High Street, WC2H 8LN.

The exhibition will run from 15 February to 15 March on:

•Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 7pm;

•Wednesdays from 11am to 7pm; and

•Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.

No booking is required to attend the lectures and the exhibition is free of charge.
