Marks And Spencer May Return To Woolwich When Suitable Store Found

by Benson Agoha

Marks and Spencer may return to Woolwich when a suitable space is available.

In a telephone conversation today, M&S’s Corporate Media Office told Woolwich Online they will consider returning to the Town Center, if and when the right space becomes available.

It comes after a local media suggested that Council Bosses had persuaded the High Street chain to open a Simply Foods store at the Town Center.

We contacted the Store’s Corporate Media Office where a source told us they were merely responding to a question asked by a Council official who wanted to know whether they will return if a suitable space is found for them in Woolwich.

The source said their reply was “..of-course we will, if a suitable space is found.” But he added, “there has been no definite decision about when Marks and Spencer will return or what type of store they will be opening there.”

Marks and Spencer is set to leave Woolwich on September 27, 2014, after 100 years at the Town Center.

The Woolwich store was opened in 1913 and at the time it announced the intention to close, the Branch employed 53 staff, many of whom have now been transferred to other branches.
