Woolwich: Water shortage forces Scaled-down operation in Town Center Buildings

by Benson Agoha

Thames Water partners, Clancy Docwra, was this this morning faced with urgent need to sort out water shortage in some buildings in Woolwich Town Center.

The Great Harry Pub today had to temporarily
halt operations due to water issues.
The Woolwich Center, housing the Royal Greenwich Council and the Woolwich Library, The Great Harry Building, housing Wetherspoon's Great Harry Pub and other properties along a vertical stretch of Wellington Street, was without water due to an underground fault around the junction of Wellington and Thomas Streets.

At The Woolwich Center toilets were inaccessible because cleaning staff had them locked up to stop the facilities from being messed up.  It was the same at the Library toilets.

At the Great Harry, operations were temporary halted and entrance into the pub was closed off to the public, as the lack of water affected operations.

But reports that The Woolwich Central which houses the Tesco Exra was affected, proved unfounded as businesses inside the property told Woolwich Online, they had water.  Inside, the Tesco Cafe was busy serving its customers.

The Town Hall opposite the Woolwich Town Centre was receiving an unsual patronage due to the shortage and there were reports of long queeue as Council workers crossed the street to answer nature's call.

Idle staff of affected shops wore sullen looks as they waited for good news.

Were you affected by the shortage? How long did it take before water returned? Please write in and tell us.
