Life After GCSEs – Royal Greenwich Lines Up Support And Advice For Students

Young people who have just received their GCSE results are reminded that there is a huge range of post-16 options available in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Whatever your results, there will be something to help you develop your skills or career, from college courses to apprenticeship and training opportunities.

The Royal Borough has a good choice of provision with sixth forms in schools and in colleges, and the Council has worked with a number of organisations to expand the range of options for post-16 students.

There are several types of courses for 16 to 19 year-olds. To make the most of their abilities and talents, it may be possible for young people to combine courses at different levels. Young people should ask their school, college or training provider about this.

Post-16 courses are made up of four levels and designed to allow participants to gain new skills and experience, and achieve qualifications. Entry level courses and Level 1 provides training and personal development opportunities. Levels 1 – 3 help participants to improve their knowledge, skills and experience culminating in qualifications such as GCSEs, apprenticeships, BTECs, NVQs, and AS and A-levels.

Other options offered include several specialist skills centre which are opening across the borough, for example, the Royal Greenwich Construction Skills Centre in Kidbrooke, run by Greenwich Community College. There is also the flagship Royal Greenwich Equestrian Centre, which offers courses to those who want qualifications in working with horses and equine care.

The Council is also bringing the Your Future roadshow to locations in Royal Greenwich, providing young people with advice and information on their next step. The roadshow will run on various dates until September 29 at youth hubs and public spaces across the borough. For full details, visit www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/yourfuture.

The Council is doing everything possible to provide advice information and opportunities to help young people make the best choice for them. No matter your results, there will a training or education opportunities for you and support on hand to help you fulfil your potential.”
