And today, the MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, Matthew Pennycook sets off an early flyer, urging his constituents to get involved, tweeting "The London Mayoral and London Assembly elections will be held on 5 May 2016 #getinvolved2016" to his followers.

Mr Khan was elected MP for Tooting in 2005. Between 2009 and 2010, he held the post of Minister of State for Transport. When Labour lost the 2010 election, he became the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice. On his website, the Labour candidate said changing London would be a mutual task. His slogan is "Together, we can change London".

The aspiring mayor said of the Capital: “London gave me and my family the opportunity to make a better life for ourselves – I want all Londoners to have the same chance.”

urges his constituents to get onboard.
Making his speech at the recently concluded Labour Conference, The mayoral hopeful told his rival in a speech that "We were briefly rivals, but always friends." adding "I’ve learned a lot from you all and I’ll be looking for your advice and support over the next nine months."

He said he owed London everything and that he wanted to win the election for city Hall "for one reason – to give all Londoners the opportunities that our city gave me."
Among the things he wants to achieve when he gets his fingers on the keys to the Mayor's office are:

* To fix the housing crisis and building more affordable homes to rent and buy.

* To tackle the air pollution that is killing 10,000 Londoners every year.

* To be the most pro-business Mayor ever, helping create jobs and wealth.

* To give Londoners the skills they need to get the jobs of the future.

* To build a modern transport system – but a transport system that Londoners can actually afford to use.

* To defend Britain's membership of the European Union – good for London’s workers, good for London’s businesses.

* To ensure that all workers are paid a wage they can survive on.

* To make it more affordable for Londoners to buy or rent a home of their your own.
