Support Fairtrade Fortnight - Royal Greenwich Tell Local Business Owners

Cafés, restaurants and other businnesses in the borough, are being asked to support this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight by holding special breakfast events.

Fairtrade fortnight runs from Febaury 29th to March 13th and this year’s theme is `Make Your Breakfast Count With Fairtrade'.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. The mark you see on some food means that the Fairtrade ingredients in the product have been produced by small-scale farmer organisations or plantations that meet Fairtrade social, economic and environmental standards.

The Royal Borough’s deputy leader Cllr John Fahy said: “I am delighted the Royal Borough has been again recognised as a Fairtrade borough and residents should feel proud of the part they play in this achievement. If any businesses or individuals can give their support to Fairtrade Breakfasts, that would be wonderful.”

Royal Greenwich celebrates Fairtrade Fortnight at the Town Hall in Woolwich on 29 February 2016 with local schools in attendance and entertainers to engage with the younger generation.

Pupils from local schools will be given the chance to take part in a Q&A and try many Fairtrade goods.

Representatives from the Fairtrade Foundation talk about FairTrade. The event will feature music from the Royal Greenwich music hub service.
