Plan Your Journey, Say Royal Greenwich As It Declares Car Free Day for Greenwich and Docklands International Festival

by Nancy Weirh | Greenwich

The Royal Borough of Greenwich advises everyone planning to travel to or through Greenwich Town Centre on Saturday 25 June to walk, cycle or use public transport or plan for a slightly longer journey due to roads being closed.

This year’s Greenwich and Docklands Festival includes the largest and most intensive programme of street arts in the capital, featuring UK and international circus, theatre, dance, street games, cabaret, live art and mass participation.

In order to make the event more enjoyable parts of Greenwich Town Centre will be closed to traffic on Saturday 25 June.

As a part of the Festival, Greenwich will celebrate Car Free Day with performances taking place in College Approach, and the northern parts of King William Walk and Greenwich Church Street.
As a result, these roads will be closed to traffic between 6.00am and 11.30pm.

The following changes will be introduced for the day:

* College Approach, King William Walk (between Nelson Road and Cutty Sark Gardens) and Greenwich Church Street (between Creek Road and Cutty Sark Gardens) will be closed to traffic

* Nelson Road will be two-way.

* The one-way working in Greenwich Church Street between Creek Road and Nelson Road will be reversed.

* All westbound traffic in Nelson Road will turn left into Greenwich Church Street and be diverted via Greenwich High Road and Norman Road.

* Creek Road will be one-way eastbound from Norman Road to Greenwich Church Street.

* Greenwich High Road will be one-way between Stockwell Street and Greenwich South Street.

* All vehicles travelling north in Stockwell Street, Royal Hill and Greenwich South Street must turn left on reaching Greenwich High Road.

Residents and businesses in the closure areas will be contacted separately about changes to parking and access.

Residents and visitors to the event are advised to check before you travel. You can sign up for e-alerts and plan your journey by visiting:
