Uber Set To Introduce Self-Driving Taxis To Public Roads Of San Franscisco Soon

Car sharing app, Uber, is reportedly set to introduce self-driving vehicles on public roads soon, according to latest media reports.

The plan, if implemented, is sure to revolutionise to auto scene where auto manufacturers and new comers like Google have been researching into the possiblity of rolling out selving driving vehicles on public roads.

According to reports, Uber plans to use Ford's own Fusion Hybrid to roll out their plan, but the technology already available on Tesla has not been fully tested and drivers appear warry of leaving their steering untended.

Google, which has been testing their driverless vehicles which comes as a mini without steering, continues their tests across several US cities.

According to AP, Uber's plan hinges on the fact that laser technology is being stretched on the Fords Fusion.

Uber has a self-driving research laboratory in Pittsburgh but apparently has no immediate plans to deploy autonomous cars in other cities. However, according to AP CEO Travis Kalanick, rollout might be concentrated to San Francisco area for the moment.

"We've got to be laser-focused on getting this to market" Kalanik was quoted as saying, adding "because it's not a side project for us. This is everything. This is all the marbles for Uber."

San Francisco is already a major centre to several driverless vehicle trials

If Uber goes ahead with its San Francisco plan, it remains to be seen how long it will take to roll out the plan in Royal Greenwich, which is an approve test city for driverless vehicles.
