A popular website stated that the Nigeria Ministry of Education released six new conditions for Universities and other learning centres to resume in the country.

But meeting the sixth condition appears to be a difficult task. Schools with large class populations will find it difficult to cope, while Universities face a new difficulty conducting lectures for combined courses that normally attract students in their hundreds and sometimes, thousands.

The six conditions listed by Legit, quoting the minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, are as follow:

(1) Hand-washing facilities

(2) Body temperature checks

(3) Body disinfectants at all entering points to their major facilities including the gates, hostels, classes, offices, etc.

(4) The whole premises of each institution must be decontaminated

(5) All efforts must be geared toward maintenance of the highest level of hygiene

(6) Ensure social/physical distancing in class sizes and meeting spaces.

Our finding is that schools premises are still under lock and key and there was no sign that they are planning an imminent resumption.

Some schools with large populations in Lagos fit in as much as 58 students into one class. Schools like Command, Unad, Treasure Court and several others with large populations per class may struggle with the last condition.
