WOOLWICH: GENERAL GORDON SQUARE HOSTS TALL CHRISTMAS TREE by Benson Agoha
* Tall Xmas Tree like this one now installed at the Square.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich yesterday took delivery of a tall Xmas tree for the 2013 Xmas celebration.
The 11 metre tree was lifted off the delivery truck unto the turf of the General Gordon Square, in the afternoon.
It now stands towering over other nearby trees around the square, o the left side of the Big Screen.
The arrival and installation of the tree heralds the beginning of other activities scheduled for the Square in the run up to Christmas, starting from November 23rd through to December 22nd.
On November 23rd, there will be Craft Stalls at the Square and on December 22nd there will be fairground rides, food stalls and big screen films.
The activities include events at the General Gordon Square expected to feature entertainment activities and an all-day festive fun on Saturday, 7th of December as part of the Woolwich Winter Warmer for 2013.
The organisers say the day (7th December) will also feature a free drop-in workshop for children at the Woolwich Library.
Saturday December 14th will be a day of songs during which Christmas Choir performances will take place at the Square along with festive roving entertainers.
At the last Traders Forum Meeting, the events were announced as open for sponsorship and local traders and businesses were invited to take advantage of the opportunities the days present to sponsor some of the programmes.
